Normally you escape to the desert in California when you are missing the warmer weather. I thought late October would be great, little did I know we would be having this crazy heat wave and we left hot for even hotter ha ha.

We made the best of it, packed lots of sunscreen and pool floats and lounged. After back to back busy road trip adventures I wanted to sit around the pool and just be with my family.

La Quinta Resort is probably my very favorite family resort. The grounds are beautiful, the restaurants on site are delicious so you honestly never need to leave unless you want to venture out.

We immediately hit the pool and relaxed until our dinner reservation at Adobe Grill the Mexican restaurant on site. The ambiance is just beautiful and the food is delicious

If you’re heading to the desert for a family trip I highly recommend The Living Desert.

It’s a great little zoo. It’s the perfect size to accomplish in the morning before it gets too hot.

The Australia exhibit is pretty cool and you can actually feed giraffes! In non Covid times you could ride camels and feed lorikeets. The kids love it

The Living Desert is located right next to El Paseo

It has lots of great restaurants and shopping.

We ate lunch there before heading back to the resort. There’s an amazing brunch spot there called Wilma & Frieda

The resort happened to be having a pumpkin carving contest the 2nd night we were there.

Did I mention my husband is a pumpkin carving master!!

Well we won and the prize was double scoops of gelato for the whole family. Woot woot!

The next two days were filled of pool, smoothies and lots of family time. When I plan a weekend family trip to relax I try to limit to one activity and the rest is pool time and just being together. La Quinta is the perfect and easy getaway for that!
