Summer in Sun Valley

One of our favorite ski destinations is Sun Valley Idaho. It is such a beautiful, family friendly town that is so easy to get around. Every time we talk to a Sun Valley frequenter they say “you HAVE to go in the summer!”

This year we took them up on that advice and we are already planning next year’s winter and summer trip.

Sun Valley Lodge is a beautiful resort with all the amenities. There’s easy and free transportation anywhere in town. The hotel has a heated pool, spa, gym, bowling alley and a year round outdoor ice skating rink. It checks all the boxes.

Things to do around Sun Valley

Ketchum has so much to offer. A great downtown with paved bike trails that will take you anywhere you want to go including The neighboring town Hailey which has great lunch spots if you’re up for the longer ride.

You can take the gondola to the top of bald mountain and hike around the top before grabbing lunch at Roundhouse to take in the amazing views of the town. If you are really feeling adventurous you can hike all the way up.

Restaurants

Roundhouse is a spot you have to checkout any time of year to take in the view. The Pioneer Saloon is a local favorite. They don’t take reservations so get there early or be prepared to wait.

The Grill at Knob Hill has the most beautiful outdoor area. We sat on the grass surrounded by flowers and trees. The menu and service was amazing. Definitely make a reservation and plan ahead. They fill up quickly. Something fun is the restaurant is located next to the Ketchum Cemetery where you will find Ernest Hemmingway’s grave site.

Want to Venture out?

If you are wanting more than biking and hiking I highly suggest taking the hour trip to Stanley where you can white water raft. We used Sawtooth Adventure Company  Sawtooth Adventure and they were amazing. They also offer day fishing trips. On the way to Stanley there is a beautiful lake called Red Fish Lake. There is lodging there if you would like to stay or you can rent different types of boats or paddle boards to enjoy the lake for the day. Red Fish Lake

We used Miller’s Limo to drive us out there. Miller's Limo

You can cram in a ton of activities or relax at the resort, eat at great restaurants and enjoy the town. It’s really up to you. Whatever you decide the wonderful people and gorgeous scenery makes it a great destination for an outdoor vacation.
