The Family Mountain

We came to June Mountain for the first time in 2020. 20 minutes past Mammoth, wide open runs, low key and easy. There is a reason the nickname is “the family mountain”

June is a great, inexpensive place to get your kids skiing. Full disclosure, if you like fancy ski trips with 5 star hotels and après-ski then this isn’t it. Don’t let that defer you though.

The town is small and quiet

There’s a few inns and cabins to rent. We stayed at June Lake Pines

They have multiple cabins to choose from and the location is great. It’s a quick 5 minute drive to the mountain and you can walk anytime in town.

You can rent skis on the mountain or there is a shop in town you can rent from

Ernie’s Tackle and Ski Shop

Did I mention kids ski free? Yup I said it! That’s a big reason why it’s a great budget friendly place to teach your kids to ski

June Mountain

There are some cute eating options in town

The lift is a great spot for breakfast or lunch or just to grab a coffee in the morning.

June pie is great if you want to order pizza. I’ll order pizza and bring it back to the cabin after a long day of skiing

June Lake Brewing is great for a beer after a long day. Everyone is there fresh off the mountain and the food truck Ohanas has great Hawaiian style food.

June mountain is 20 minutes past mammoth. You can always venture out to eat at Mammoth or ski there one day. I love the low key and easy vibe of June. Lines and crowds in Mammoth can get crazy. You don’t deal with that In June. My family has skied New Years weekend and presidents weekend and no lines. That’s a big deal with impatient little ones.
